I have shared my love of the Autumn season with you several times; the colors, smells, sounds, and feel are so very refreshing to me. From September 12 to 15, Paul and I camped (got a cabin) on Grand Mesa. The colors were beautiful; the golden aspen had a touch of sherbet. Last month, our Ladies' Sunday School class was discussing the bright yellow sunflowers along the roadways. How each turns its face to the sun and stays focused on it all day, as the sun travels across the sky. We compared them to how each of us should be focused on the Son each day, all day. Each sunflower is different; some tall, some shorter, some a little crooked, each unique. But each one turning its face to the sun. Again like us; each of us are unique. He shines on us all and warms our faces and our hearts.
The first Sunday in November, that is the fifth, we will go off of Day Light Savings Time. We will get to sleep-in just a little longer. But no one should be later for Sunday School. You will have an extra hour for fun and fellowship.
November is a busy month, the eleventh, we celebrate our Veterans and give thanks for and to those who have served and are serving. We are so thankful for the men and women who put themselves in harm's way to keep us and our freedoms safe. I'm sure they are thankful for our PRAYERS and support.
Our Nation has set aside a special day this month to give thanks to God for our bounty and His goodness toward us. I encourage you to read Psalm 40:5 and spend some time trying to truly take-in how good, merciful, and gracious God is toward you. Then read Phil 4:4 & 6, and rejoice in your thanksgiving.
Saturday, December 2, at 2pm is our Christmas Card Party. Mark your calendar. This is an opportunity to share Jesus with those who need Christ and spiritual encouragement. We join Prayer Warriors for Prisoners during this special time of year. This ministry gives us the opportunity to respond to Matthew 25:39-40, "When did we see you sick, or in prison, and came to you. And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." Please make plans to join us for an opportunity to share Christ, the real reason for the season, with prisoners who are so open and hungry to hear about Jesus. Come, all supplies are provided including cookies and hot cider.
For the month of December, I have made different suggestions. I encourage you to watch "The Nativity Story" if you haven't already. It came out a few years ago. It does a wonderful job of presenting the miracle that took place over 2000 years ago. Also there is a series of little 'Why' books by Bodie and Brock Thoene; Why a Shepherd, Why a Manger, Why a Crown, Why a Star. You can read one in an evening or two. Any one of them will add a blessing to your Christmas season.
Winter quarter in Sunday School we will go back and finish the book of Acts. If you have any questions about our Sunday School classes please feel free to contact me.
Love In Christ,
Dr. Janice Luellen
